What is Lasik Surgery?
Lasik Eye Surgery is a very common laser eye surgery that is used to correct your eye sight and eliminate the need for corrective lenses or contact lenses. It is becoming more and more popular because it gives you amazing over night results without much pain and a very quick almost instant recovery time. In fact, good vision is usually noted by as soon as the very next day after the procedure has been done. It is performed with the use of an instrument that is called a microkeratome. A thin and circular flap is created in the cornea. The surgeon then folds the flap back and out of the way, removes a bit of corneal tissue with the use of an excimer laser and reshapes the cornea. Once the cornea has been reshaped correctly it will cause you to have better eye sight. Once the reshaping is finished then the flap is put back into place.
When you decide to have Lasik eye surgery done, you will want to make sure that you make the right decisions so that you get the best results possible. Your eyes are very important to you and you don't want to make the wrong decisions by not doing your homework ahead of time. You should make sure that you check out several perspective surgeons and choose the right one for you. Then you will go in for a consultation and receive an eye exam. The doctor will also want to know about any health problems you have, or any medications that you are taking. This is done to make sure that you are a good candidate for the surgery.
During the surgery you will more than likely go to a walk in center. You will be given an oral sedative and then the doctor will have you lie down, you will also receive eye drops that will numb your eyes. They will then make sure that your eye is positioned where it should be, right under the laser. The doctor will then place a retainer over your eye to make sure that it is held still and open. An ink marker is then used to mark where the flap will be created. The flap is then created and the cornea is reshaped with the help of a computer which helps determine your exact prescription. As the laser is working you will hear a clicking noise. Most people state that they don't feel any pain at all during the procedure.
Once you are done the doctor will have you rest for a bit. You will be given recovery instructions that you will want to make sure that you follow. These instructions will let you know the types of things that you won't want to do right away, and for how long to avoid them. Such as, many doctors will want you to avoid strenuous exercise for at least a week. You will also want to avoid rubbing your eyes after you have had Lasik eye surgery. Most people go home and take a nap, when they wake up they see much clearer already.
